This book is very useful for students who wish to review the subject of human physiology, and for practitioners who are desirous of keeping abreast of the times. It quite lives up to its name, since the essentials of physiology are clearly presented, and not in such detail as they appear in Starling's volume. All fields of physiology are discussed. The newer discoveries, especially those concerning the functions of the capillaries, the endocrine organs, and the vitamins, are considered in relation with the older work. The arrangement of the text and the section headings facilitate comprehension of the subject. H. E. HIMWICH.
